If you've ever wanted to order a $300 pour without anyone blinking, your spot is almost ready.

Neat Bourbon Bar is coming to 440 W. Coleman Blvd. — the former Topsail space — with an expected April opening. Owner Howard Dozier told the Post & Courier the bar will launch with somewhere between 250 and 300 bourbons on the shelf.

Yes, that includes Pappy Van Winkle.

The backstory

Dozier opened the first Neat in Greenville back in 2019 after two decades in the bar and restaurant business — bowling alleys, night clubs, the Comedy Zone franchise. Bourbon was a portfolio move. It turned into something more.

As he told the Post & Courier: "It did really well out of a small location. It's a small footprint, easy to staff and easy to maintain."

Now there are locations in Myrtle Beach and Greer, with Simpsonville and Clemson on deck. Mount Pleasant is next.

What to expect

The range here is real. An $8 bourbon and a $300 glass can coexist on the same menu — and that's kind of the point. Beyond the extensive spirits list (Tennessee, Kentucky, Scotland, Ireland, Japan, Canada), Neat will serve craft cocktails and small plates, including:

  • Bourbon and bacon mac n' cheese (house-made)

  • Bacon popcorn with sea salt and cracked pepper

  • Charcuterie boards

Rare finds like WhistlePig and Blade & Bow will also be on the shelves alongside the Van Winkle.

Why Mount Pleasant?

Dozier sees East Cooper as a natural fit. And he's not worried about the broader trend of younger drinkers cutting back.

"I know the younger people aren't drinking much these days," he told the Post & Courier, "but bourbon is a little bubble and kind of protected from that."

Hard to argue with a guy who turned one small Greenville bar into a statewide brand.
