Nashville finally has a satellite office on King Street.
On Air Live and On Air Studio opened this week at 565 King Street, taking over the former Ink Rooftop & Lounge space and bringing something Charleston's bar scene doesn't have a ton of: a committed, concept-driven honky-tonk with live music every single night.
This isn't a vibe. It's a venue.
Three Floors, Three Personalities
The bar runs vertically, and each floor has its own identity.
Downstairs, On Air Live leans country — live bands, a dance floor, the kind of room where boots make sense. Head upstairs to On Air Studio and it shifts: house music, low-key lounge energy, red lighting. The bar's own description is "Dark. Moody. Loungey." — which tells you exactly what you're walking into.
A rooftop bar overlooks the downtown scene for when you just want a drink and a view.
The Food
The menu earns points for committing to the Nashville angle without turning into a theme park. Hot chicken tenders. Cheerwine-glazed wings. A Chicago Italian beef sandwich snuck in for the out-of-towners. Standard pub fare fills out the rest.
The Block Is Moving
On Air isn't the only news on King Street right now. Apparel brands Greyson and TWP Clothing recently opened. Gwynn's is incoming. Jones Road — the clean cosmetics brand with a serious following — opens soon at 322 King. And Mother's Ruin, named after the 18th-century nickname for gin (great bar name, by the way), is taking over 474 King in the former Rarebit space.
That stretch is filling in fast. It's worth paying attention to.
The Bottom Line
If you've been waiting for a Charleston bar that actually commits to a concept — multiple floors, a distinct personality on each one, and live music you don't have to hunt for — On Air is worth a visit.
565 King St. Open now.
