A stretch of Reynolds Avenue that's quietly become one of North Charleston's most interesting nightlife corridors just picked up a new anchor.

Reggie's Tavern is now open at 2023 Reynolds Ave., in the space that used to house XO Lounge. It's a joint effort from two operators with downtown bona fides: the team behind Burns Alley Tavern off King Street, and Chaz Wendel, who turned a former coffee shop on George Street into the sandwich destination Legend Deli back in 2023.

Why it matters. Reynolds Avenue has been one of the most-watched redevelopment corridors in the Lowcountry. Old garages, body shops, and forgotten storefronts have steadily turned into breweries, restaurants, and concept bars over the past few years. Reggie's is the latest move in that arc — a bar that takes the upper Reynolds energy and points it directly at the dive crowd.

The vibe. Windy City. The name and theme are a nod to Burns Alley owner Jimmy Evans's Chicago roots, and the bar leans hard into the bit: nearly 70 indoor seats, a 23-stool bar, a pool table, local art on the walls, and a daily 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. open window. The kitchen runs 11 to 10, seven days.

The food. Wendel is calling it diner-meets-dive: chicken wings, a fried pork chop sandwich, fish-and-chips, hamburger steak. "We were kind of growing out of our little kitchen downtown," he told the Post & Courier. The North Charleston buildout doubles as catering headquarters for Legend Deli, which has been sprinting since opening.

The bigger picture. Reynolds Avenue's reinvention has been one of the more honest stories in Charleston growth — slower than downtown, less polished than Park Circle, but real. Reggie's fits the throughline: an operator who already proved he could read the room downtown, now reading a different room three miles north.
