Share House, the breezy downtown Charleston bar known for its summer-all-year energy, didn’t just get a facelift this season — it got a full-blown personality refresh.
Since opening in 2022, the House has been a magnet for 20-somethings chasing good vibes, DJs, and crush cocktails that taste like vacation. By day, it drew families from the nearby Children’s Museum; by night, it pulsed with music and neon until late.
But like any hot spot, the shine started to fade. Locals drifted elsewhere for game days, happy hours, and hangouts.
That’s when Keith Benjamin and chef Alec Gropman — the duo behind Uptown Hospitality Group — decided to flip the script.
Rethinking the Recipe
The pair had seen this movie before. Their earlier concept, Bodega, had to pivot from grab-and-go breakfast to cozy all-day café after realizing locals wanted more comfort than concept.
“When something’s not clicking, you listen and adapt,” Benjamin said to the Post & Courier. “Tastes and trends evolve. People want to be surprised again.”
So they hit refresh on Share House, leaning into something nostalgic — the easygoing charm of East Coast summers. Think the Jersey Shore meets the Hamptons, minus the pretense.
Coastal Comfort, Reimagined
Inside, wicker seating replaces high-top hustle. Blue wave-like tile now ripples along the walls. It’s an open invitation to linger — to sip, snack, and stay awhile. Outside, the wide alley still hums with life, ideal for events and those signature late nights.
And then there’s the food — playful, unfussy, a boardwalk buffet of indulgence.
The new menu reads like a summer mixtape: jumbo pretzels, mozzarella sticks with a “cheese pull from one side of Share House to the other,” loaded fries (one dubbed Girl Dinner), and hot dogs that wink at nostalgia.
The showstopper? The Share House Chicken Bucket — crispy fingers and waffle fries packed into a branded bucket, ready for Instagram.
In just two weeks, over 100 chicken buckets flew out the door.
“It’s been really fun to market,” Benjamin said, laughing. “People see it and instantly get it.”
Crushes and Cocktails — Literally
The new logo pops with an orange — a nod to their best-selling Orange Crush. The bar now doubles down on those bright, juicy flavors with riffs like Key Lime, Watermelon, and Paloma Crushes, plus oversized lemonades that taste like Coney Island in the ’90s — but sleeker.
It’s a whole mood: sun-soaked, salty-air energy that carries straight into the night.
And don’t worry — the live DJs and late-night scene aren’t going anywhere.
“We wanted to double down on what makes Share House so special,” Benjamin said.
“Bringing people together in a fun, unfussy setting that feels like summer all year long.”
Mission accomplished — again.
