Mount Pleasant's favorite family pub is about to get a lot more interesting — for adults, anyway.
Dog & Duck Family Pubs is opening Decoy, a 21+ neighborhood bar coming to the corner of Highway 41 and Highway 17. It's sliding into the spot where The Basement used to operate, and if you ever loved that place, you're already getting the vibe.
No kids. No problem.
The idea has been brewing for years.
Co-owner Rod Bradley has long wanted a grown-up dive bar — something with a Cheers atmosphere. His words: "A place to just be yourself, you can come as you are and nobody cares what you wear or how much you swear," he told the Post & Courier.
That's a mission statement we can get behind.
The timing makes sense on a personal level, too. When the Bradleys launched Dog & Duck, their youngest kid was two. That kid just turned 21. Life moves fast — and apparently, so does your bar concept.
What to expect inside.
Decoy is promising cold beer, well-made cocktails, and a tight food menu running 15–20 items. Think appetizers, sandwiches, chicken wings — the classics.
But here's the detail that'll get people talking: they're bringing back The Basement's beloved soft pretzel, paired with a house beer cheese recipe. And Dog & Duck fans will recognize the clam strips making a return appearance.
Live music. Bar games. Buck Hunter and Golden Tee. A dog-friendly patio, because of course.
Why adults-only?
Rod Bradley put it plainly to the Post & Courier: Mount Pleasant has plenty of family spots — but not many bars where you can walk in and actually feel comfortable.
Decoy is filling that gap. Intentionally. With full commitment.
Their Park West and Long Point Dog & Duck locations are close by and still very much welcoming your whole crew. Decoy is just doing something different.
The details.
