Happy Thursday, Charleston. This day in 1780 marked the moment when the British siege of Charleston shifted from posturing to serious siege warfare. After positioning themselves across the harbor in late March, British forces under Henry Clinton began the first siege parallel β a line of fortifications dug 800 yards from the American defenses where Charlestonians huddled behind their makeshift breastworks.
Over the next five weeks, the British would tighten the noose with relentless discipline, and on May 12, the city surrendered in what became the worst American defeat of the entire Revolution. April 2 was the day the game changed from standoff to slow suffocation..
Did you do the Bridge Run?
Congrats to Laura F. of Naples, FL who guessed correctly in last weekβs βWhere Are We?β I was at the fictional Kildare County Sheriffβs Station, of Outer Banks fame.
To us locals (and Laura), that means I was on Pitt Street in the Old Village looking at the condo building across from the Post House.

Mimi Striplin of The Tiny Tassel recently celebrated 10 years in business
Mimi Striplin started The Tiny Tassel at 22 with a pair of handmade earrings, an Etsy shop, and an Instagram account. Ten years later, her colorful Charleston boutique has grown into a full design brand with a loyal following both here and far beyond the peninsula. But the story isnβt really about tassels β itβs about Charleston, small business, and building something one piece at a time.
PRESENTED BY OPT ALTERNATIVES
Your mission deserves better than messy books.
Charleston's most values-driven organizations β nonprofits, community orgs, local small businesses β are doing important work. But too many of them are drowning in spreadsheets, behind on reconciliations, or flying blind on cash flow.
Opt Alternatives fixes that. They build smart, clean financial systems tailored specifically for the Lowcountry ventures that make this city worth living in.
This isn't your generic accounting firm. It's a strategic partner who actually gets why you do what you do.

Just reply to this email, or if youβre reading on our website, email me here. The first person to guess correctly will get a shout-out at the top of our issue next week!
