The wait is over for West Ashley's doughnut crowd.
BkeDSHoP, the locally owned bakery that's been quietly building a small Lowcountry empire since launching out of a food truck a decade ago, has opened its fourth shop at 555 Shadowmoss Parkway, just off Bees Ferry Road.
Why here, why now. Customers asked. Specifically, customers in West Ashley who'd been making the drive to downtown or Mount Pleasant — neither of which is a quick errand. "A lot of people were forced to choose between our downtown location and our Mount Pleasant location which were both a hike for driving," manager Egypt Howard said in the Post & Courier. "We knew there would be a lot of committed customers."
What's on the menu. The signature doughnuts you'd expect — the Cereal and Milk, the square OG Sprinkle, the rest of the standard rotation. Howard also wants the new crowd to try the coffee program: traditional pulls (cappuccino, cortado) sitting next to the more current stuff (ceremonial matcha latte). It's the kind of menu that quietly tells you the team takes the drink side as seriously as the dough.
The backstory. Chris and Keila Gargate started BkeDSHoP out of a food truck ten years ago. The first storefront opened at WestEdge in June 2018. Mount Pleasant and Summerville followed. The West Ashley location is the most suburban they've gone — and the closest test yet of whether the brand still works outside its founding neighborhood.
The bigger picture. The Shadowmoss strip center took a while to come online. It was supposed to open in the summer of 2024, and BkeDSHoP is one of just two tenants — alongside a nail salon — in a center the Adams Property Group says will eventually have room for 12 to 15 retail businesses. So this is also the first real signal that West Ashley's long-promised retail center is actually happening.
The hours. 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
