Happy Thursday, Charleston! Ever wonder why all of Mount Pleasant’s major roads seem to be named after guys? Who were these men?!
Well, wonder no longer. Here’s your scoop on Johnnie Dodds, Chuck Dawley, Ben Sawyer and Francis F. Coleman.
Congrats to Susan S. of Folly Beach who guessed correctly in last week’s “Where Are We?” I was standing on the north side of Calhoun Street downtown, close to C of C’s Barnes & Noble, looking across at the fabulous mural on the old College Lodge building.
The work of Charleston’s own Shepard Fairey, it was part of a 2014 exhibit where he left his mark on a number of buildings in town. Only 3 remain, and this one may be short-lived as the building is slated for demo to make way for a new College of Charleston dorm.
If his work looks familiar, Mr. Fairey was the artist who created President Obama’s HOPE poster.
One ask before you scroll.

V Modern Italian is opening in the downtown space formerly occupied by The Select
The last high-design restaurant at the Greystar headquarters at 465 Meeting lasted just 16 months. Now V Modern Italian is taking over — same space, same buildout, completely different stakes. Here’s why this concept might finally stick.

Just reply to this email, or if you’re reading on our website, email me here. The first person to guess correctly will get a shout-out at the top of our issue next week!

The First Offer Test
The first offer is rarely the best—but it’s almost always the most honest. It tells you how buyers are really perceiving the home, not how the seller hopes it’s perceived. Ignoring early feedback is one of the easiest ways to lose momentum.

A self-taught ramen obsessive just opened a noodle shop on Reynolds Ave — and the origin story involves a Tokyo research trip.
A mother-son duo turned a Rome street-side pasta moment into something Charleston's been missing.
The "Smut Bus" just got a permanent address — and West Ashley didn't see it coming.
Your local family pub just grew up — and left the kids at home.
