Happy Thursday, Charleston. On November 5, 1912, Charleston voters sent Sam Rittenberg to the South Carolina House, and if that name rings a bell, it's because you've probably sat in traffic on it. Rittenberg came to America from Lithuania as a teenager, landed in Charleston, and built a career in real estate and insurance before trying politics. He went on to co-author the bill that created the Charleston County Library and the Rittenberg School Act, which shaped local education standards for decades. In 1972, Highway 7 in West Ashley was renamed in his honor. A library, a school law and a boulevard. Not bad for a kid who got here from Lithuania.

Two pieces of news, and one of them is a big deal.
First, the website got a complete redesign. New look, easier to find what you're after, same Charleston obsession. Take it for a spin at chshappenings.com.
Second, drumroll please: starting Monday, Nov. 16, CHS Happenings hits your inbox twice a week. Thursday isn't going anywhere. Monday is the new one, with the same quality and consistency you’re used to, plenty of what you already like, and a few things you'll only find on Mondays. Development Watch, for one, is moving there.
Why the 2nd day? I’ve heard from a lot of you that you’d like to hear about more events. New restaurants and retail. Civic news. More frequently.
After trying a number of things—broadcast channel on instagram, Facebook page, and a few others—it seems email is what y’all like best, given my insanely high open rate! 😆
Worried about inbox overload? Fair. Twice a week is the ceiling, and it's staying that way. You have my word.
Thanksgiving is three weeks out. Fess up, how much of that dinner are you actually cooking?
Dinner Club is back in Mount Pleasant on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 PM. The last time we ate there, several Mount P restaurants treated us like regulars, and we've been looking for an excuse to go back ever since. Here it is.
Congrats to Colin C. of Mount Pleasant, who guessed correctly in last week's Where Are We? It was The Charleston Pour House on James Island.

Or book by phone: 843-300-7840
A famous South of Broad house just listed for a price 62% above Charleston's record home sale. The last time this same house went big, it took eleven years to sell, and it closed for less than half the original ask. We ran the numbers.

Just reply to this email, or if you're reading on our website, email me here. The first person to guess correctly will get a shout-out at the top of our issue next week!

The Pig Never Penciled
For years the city tried to build on the old Piggly Wiggly lot in West Ashley, and the plan that got closest needed an underground garage on about three acres. It died on a 6 to 6 vote. What finally got Ashley Landing moving was a different kind of fix, and the new Publix is landing somewhere else entirely.
