Congrats to Michael H. of Mount Pleasant who was the 1st to guess correctly in our āWhere Are Weā segment last week! We were at Fort Johnson on James Island. When I read The Demon Of UnrestāErik Larsonās terrific book about the months leading up to the start of the Civil WarāI was fascinated to learn that Major Andersonās Union troops, hunkered down at Fort Sumter, could actually hear the voices of Confederate soldiers in Fort Johnson in the dead of night.
In todayās newsletter:
Wonder why the Cooper River Bridge Run is such a big deal? We break down some numbers and get you ready.
Pickleball shows no signs of slowing down in CHS. A HUGE new gym is opening in North Charleston.

Time To Get Over It

LETāS GO!
3rd-largest 10K in the country.
31,156 runner/walkers in 2024.
$35 million economic impact.
How impressive are these numbers? Theyāre well-earned for such a superbly-organized race.
The Cooper River Bridge Run is upon us. It goes off at 8:00 AM tomorrow at the corner of Simmons Street and Coleman Boulevard in Mount Pleasant and ends 6.1 miles later in Marion Square downtown.
Itās not only a beautiful courseāpassing over Shem Creek about a mile in, ascending and descending the majestic Ravenel Bridge, traveling down Meeting and King Streetsāitās got its challenges.
Particularly around Mile 2.
This hill is a soul sucker and if you have not trained on hills, or even if you have, it can defeat you mentally.
Yep, Dougās got that right.
But this is the 7th time for me, and I love running it every time.
As of about a month ago, Irv Batten, the Bridge Run Race Director, reported they were around 2,000 registrants over 2024 numbers.
By now, I suspect the numberās easily over 35,000.
Come out and cheer us on. Iāl be the guy with the goofy grinābefore I attack that 5% incline.
WHERE ARE WE?
Each week, watch this space for a random snap from somewhere in Charleston. Where are we? Only true locals will know. DM your guess on Instagram, or email me here. The first person to guess correctly will get a shout-out at the top of our issue next week!

Easy or hard?

Mark Your Calendars For The 10th Doughnut Dash 5K And The #Race4Wanza

Yāall need to come out on Saturday, April 26 and run (or walk, your choice!) the 10th annual Race 4 Wanza, the premier event of Race 4 Achievement.
Race 4 Achievement has such an important mission, and Iām 100% behind it. Our real estate company, The Farrell Group, is sponsoring the race. And Iāll be running it in anticipation of a Krispy Kreme doughnut at the finish!
Race 4 Achievement helps guide high school and middle school students in North and South Carolina communities who aspire to develop professional skills and become well-rounded scholars and citizens in their neighborhoods.
The race carries on the legacy of Tywanza Sanders. Tywanza was 26 years old when he was fatally shot during Bible study at Mother Emanuel AME in downtown Charleston, SC. He was the beloved son of Mr. Tyrone and Mrs. Felicia Sanders and a young man just beginning his mark on the world.
Race 4 Achievement exists to forever ensure that Tywanzaās impact on the lives of others is remembered, honored and celebrated.
Please come out and support the good work Race 4 Achievement is doing, get your fitness on, and enjoy a doughnut and fellowship on April 26!
